The Fane River rises in Co.Armagh, crosses the Border in Co.Monaghan, flows into Lough Muckno and then travels through Co.Armagh and Co.Louth, finally entering the sea at Lurgangreen near Blackrock, Dundalk

The river has always held an excellent stock of Wild Brown Trout. Sea Trout and Salmon enter the river during the summer months. From early June, Sea trout start moving into the river from the sea. Later in August, Salmon start arriving in the river and given good water conditions, excellent Salmon and Sea Trout angling can be had.

The Sea Trout Angling Season ends on the 30th of September and Salmon angling on the 12th of October, on waters in Co.Armagh the Salmon Season goes on until 31st of October.

Both Fane Anglers Club and Dundalk Salmon Anglers encourage angling tourism on their fishiers. Day permits are available locally. Both Associations are open to new members and application forms are available from this site.
